Cultured Veggies

Lactofermented food is a new concept for me, but has been used as food preservation for centuries.  It has tons of nutritional benefits and it tastes great.

I just made my first batch of lacto-fermented cucumbers, green peppers, and onions….and they are soooo yummy.

Here is the recipe I used if you’d like to try it out.  Thanks to my friend Kris for sharing it with me 🙂

Hey, for any of you out there intimidated by the idea of pressure canning/cooking.  Please know that YES, you can do it!  I did it for the first time a couple weeks ago.  So, if I can do it, ANYONE can do it!

I’ve canned several quarts of beans so far.  I really was soooo reluctant to do it…and almost wimped out and stuck them in the freezer, but by loving husband encouraged me and really cheered me on!

I’m so excited about having our own organic home grown beans!

Got Cucumbers?

These are days are when we are reminded “yes…all those days of watering, weeding, working in the garden are worth it”…sweat, callouses, and all :).

Our gracious heavenly Father is blessing us with a bountiful harvest of green beans, cucumbers, and peppers.  It’s so rewarding to feed our family food that is grown from our own backyard without the use of harmful chemicals.

Genesis 1:11…Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it”….(this was day three) then

God creates man (day 6) and verse 29 “Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it”

It’s amazing to me He created the seed bearing plant three days before man…with the intent to give to man.   I know this is sooo simple, but this is just so profound to me.  I guess now that I truly understand the miracle of growing food from a seed.  It still blows my mind to see a seed go into the ground, die, then bring forth life in a plant, then a flower, bloom and then ultimately a vegetable or a fruit.

Then Jesus demonstrated this same illustration by going to the grave and then He alone brings forth “fruit” in our life if and when we put our “seed” (flesh) in the ground to death!

I love how these object lessons bring the Word of God to more reality in my own life.

Busy bees

We’re finding out that summer is a very busy time to keep up with a blog.  Most of our “spare” time is spent in the garden these days!  So if all 2 of our readers are wondering where we are….this is it…

This picture is several weeks old.  So the garden is much more filled in now with sunflowers and vegetation.  We have green beans and cucumbers coming in now.

Josiah officially turned the big “one” last month…

Josiah is such a special gift to our family, as all of our children.  He is very funny and is learning to get in on the action of the family.

Hope you all are having a blessed summer.
